- Starting Balance: The initial cash amount you plan to deposit into your savings account.
- Contribution Amount: The dollar amount you plan to deposit on a recurring basis.
- Contribution Frequency: How often you make deposits (e.g., monthly, bi-weekly, or annually).
- Time to Grow: The duration (in months or years) you plan to let your money compound.
- Annual Interest Rate (APY): The expected annual rate of return offered by your savings account or investment vehicle.
- Compound Frequency: How often earned interest is added back into your principal balance (e.g., daily, monthly, or annually).
After entering your details, you can immediately review your general savings information, total savings breakdown, balance over time chart, and a complete amortization schedule.
Understanding Your Results
Your results are organized into four key sections: core summary metrics, a total savings breakdown, a visual balance over time chart, and a full amortization schedule.
- Total Ending Balance: The total projected value of your account at the end of your savings timeline.
- Interest Earned: The cumulative interest generated strictly from compound interest over time.
- Growth Multiple: The ratio comparing your final total balance against the total money you personally deposited (Ending Balance ÷ Total Contributions).
- Total Savings Breakdown: A visual proportion bar showing the contribution share between your starting balance, total contributions, and earned interest.
- Balance Over Time: A graph charting your balance trajectory year over year, highlighting how interest accelerates relative to principal deposits.
- Amortization Schedule: A detailed breakdown tracking annual principal additions, total interest accumulated, and end-of-year balances.
How Each Value is Calculated
Savings growth are calculated using this formula:
A = P(1 + r/n)^(nt) + PMT × [((1 + r/n)^(nt) − 1) ÷ (r/n)]
Where A is the ending balance, P is your starting principal, r is the annual interest rate, n is the compounding frequency per year, t is the total duration in years, and PMT is your recurring deposit amount.
- Total ending balance: Calculated using the savings formula above.
- Interest Earned: Total Ending Balance − Total Contributions
- Growth Multiple: Total Ending Balance ÷ Total Contributions
